Upcoming changes to Gmail app.
I just received some pretty sad news. The API that LauncherPro uses to access your Gmail messages (used on the Gmail widget and the Gmail dock notifications) is being removed in the next version of the Gmail app for Android 2.2 and higher. Apparently the API does not meet modern security standards.
What this means for LauncherPro users is once you update to this new version, your LauncherPro Plus Gmail widget, and LauncherPro Gmail dock notifications will stop working, and even potentially crash the launcher if you try to use them (I don’t have access to this upcoming version yet, so I cannot fully test it).
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope that the Android team will come out with a revised API soon enough, so that we can re-gain our Gmail integration in LauncherPro.

Its still the fastest launcher available.. but I need improvement. Folder like MIUI or ICS, appdrawer customization, horizontal scrolling on appdrawer, theme color customization ….. should be good on next update
… thx….

Anyone can post using Fede’s name. I just did and I’m not him. If he were truly ok I think he would write a new post not just a vague comment. I hope the real Fede is okay.

Come on guys stop complaining about an app you purchase at a low cost. I continue to use LPP and will continue to use it till there is a better launcher or Fede releases the re-write
But until than stop the complaining its getting quite annoying.

fede, please. I love your launcher, and it is blazing fast, but i do have FC problems like a lot of other people, and it’s falling behind other launchers. Please at least offer some kind of report on what you have worked on to this point (horizontal scrolling, themes, ICS support, anything) I’ll continue to use it, but not for much longer. I feel that other people will start to abandon ship as well

yay you are at least watching this site….
please… lp needs an update quickly cos on ics i cant put lp widgets without it crashing forever….(i have to delete it really quick in about 3-5 secs to get lp back running…
and the app drawer isn’t smooth at all…
(defy running ics latest cm9)
i have to udr altdrawer from xda in order to enjoy lp…
note: there are some lists on android that are the smoothest thins i ever saw in my life! the oi file manager, your hide app menu and wallpaper save&set list of folders(which i have to use in order to not get 8\16 bit wallpaper on lp fix that pls)
you are one of the best android devs i ever saw but you neglect your super launcher…
what is the status of your rewrite btw?

Mr. Carnales,
I continue to use your product on my Android phone. I follow you on Twitter. I try to keep up, and have tried to keep up, with any news on your fantastic launcher. But there are many that say you are remiss when it comes to updates or updating your user base on updates.
So I’m writing this open letter to you, and humbly requesting, can you please tell us? What is going on with LPP for Android phones? Have you ceased development on this? IS there an update in the works? When do you think you will be ready to release an update?
A lot of folks are very anxious to see what improvements will have been made to the best launcher app out there, and what unique features will make it surpass competing applications that have since been released and updated by the likes of ADW and Go.
I place my faith in you as an honorable developer and businessman, that you will indeed give us the straight story on what has become of Launcher Pro.
Kind regards,
James

I have been faithfully using LPP until recently. It is to the point that other apps have moved beyond LPP’s capabilities and that I am now moving to Go Launcher because other developers prefer to develop their apps against that API instead of the old and outdated LPP. I agree that it is very fast, but I have found myself having to work around LPP to get what I need out of my phone and I will no longer be using LPP. I think it’s somewhat ridiculous for Fredrico to post “I’m fine, and still working on LP” after all of the rants, questions and concerns of all the people who have bought his product. I think we all deserve a little more than that. I may look at LP again after an update, but I’m going to assume the latest post was put out simply to offer false hope to keep the purchases rolling in. I understand that people have lives and get busy with other things, but I think that after nearly a year, he could do better than that simple post.

I’m quite satisfied with this LP, my main goal was to get rid of the default launcher that had no flexibility to remove Sprint ID. I also have ADW, BUT I like LP better. I use yahoo more than gmail, so I don’t need notifdications. I have a small phone, so anything heavy will crash, a future update might just cause oroblems, we’ll see. For now, workes for me.

Hi guys,
So has this launcher been officially abandoned by its creator? No more updates in quite a while now.
Thanks!
I guess what Fede means by, “I’m fine and still working on Launcher Pro,” is actually, “I’m still processing payments for my app.”
The lack of respect for customers is somewhat shocking. Besides feeling somewhat ripped off by false promises/advertising, I REALLY miss being able to use the Launcher Pro widgets since I can’t use the now buggy Launcher Pro. I wish the widgets were available separately. But I’m sure not gonna hold my breath. Really sad to see a talent go to pathetic waste life Fede. RIP.

Still want an update!

I have honestly given up all hope of an update for LP.
I paid for LP+ because LP used to be the best launcher but after 8 months with no updates and only messages saying “it’s being worked on” with no ETA or actual info on what’s going on,I think it’s fair to say it’s dead.
I post this here because all posts on the forums about the update get locked or deleted. They really don’t want people asking so people will continue paying for LP+.
Well, “it’s been worked on ” is not good enough for me, especially after 8 months of silence.
For anyone else who want sto check out other lanchers try here:

App abandoned by developer! He got our money and know is on Caribe!! Hahahaha!
Google fixed the API problem on April 5th, so we’ll find out whether Fede is still developing LauncherPro very soon. The new Gmail Public Labels API works on Froyo and GB 2.3.6 and above, and Honeycomba and ICS 4.0.5. Google have released a sample app showing how it works.
Hi, just read some of the comments on this website. I can understand where many people are coming from but I can also understand where other people are saying to back off and respect Fede and his work.
Now personally, if I paid money for a Launcher and it was just abandoned I would be very pissed. However, it was not abandoned, it was placed on hiatus because of Google.
Then you have the people that have “donated” money to the developer of the app. See this amuses me because you are upset at Fede, O.o ?!?!
Can you please tell me on how you “donate” money to someone but then get upset at them for not doing what you want them to do. Then technically you are not donating anything, your paying for services rendered and not received. When you make a donation to the developer of the app and the only praise you need is knowing that you helped someone who was in need. How can you get upset for donating someone money? If it’s a donation then once you give that money away you should be happy to help. You don’t know what the $10 was spent on. It could have been diapers or half the money for formula if he has a child, or something else that is important.
All that is known is a donation is made in kindness and goodwill, not based on what the person can do for you or is doing.
Also, my opinion on this matter with LauncherPro is the following ;
Google has changed their API as of April 5th so here is the $1,000,000 Q&A, will there be a new (or seriously updated) LauncherPro?
Now I am going to try to email the guy to get some information about the matter. Whatever I find out, I will post on here. Many of you have been waiting patiently. There is no harm and there is wrong in saying that I can’t update said app because Google changed their API then you can’t do anything and have no choice in the matter. What I do think is wrong is to say that the reason why I can’t update my app is because of Google but when the problem is fixed you don’t even address the people that paid for the product and have waited patiently.
So I’ll be back shortly. Until then try GO Launcher EX, It’s pretty damn good. That’s what I’ve been using since.

Google’s API has nothing to do with the lack of development on this app. The truth is it still works, and if you bought it then you can still use its current functionality. Just like you don’t get updates on your OLD ipods anymore, you don’t get updates on this app anymore. Just switch to GO Launcher EX like previous post said. Much better anyways…
about 1 year ago
I tried Go Launcher EX. It’s really slow, and lags a lot, in my Motorola Defy @ 1Ghz. Ok, it have more features, effects, etc, but Launcher Pro have almost all of them, and runs a lot faster.
Go Launcher EX is geared most for high end devices, every new version becomes slower than the previous one. If they optimize it, of course will be the best launcher.

We were told well over a year ago that we were getting a new version of LP. That’s why everybody is complaining. We were told it,people bought LPP and then this new years has never appeared.
Well sadly, I had to finally throw in the towel. Launcher Pro is simply too broken to work properly on ICS–especially since you can not use the calendar widget on ICS. Still my favorite launcher by far, and I hope that it is still being developed and will be ready for ICS soon. As of now, I am using the Apex launcher and it is rather nice.
Fede, been using your launcher for a couple of years since it was beta and bought my license way back in July of 2010 when you first went live with it. Please don’t abandon this launcher. I am more than willing to buy it again–simply because your work is that good.

Seriously?? If your API does not meet modern security standards, isn’t it you who needs to adapt? Security is critical. I am currently restoring all data, games, utilities, etc on my tablet after doing a factory reset. Two viruses had invaded. Should I trust your system when you are not taking extra precautions on my behalf?
There are two other items I would like to bring to your attention. One is that I want to arrange the apps in each folder the way I want, not the random way that currently exists. Don’t you have items you like to have on top? The other- and the reason I opened your site- is that I cannot use Home Switcher to set Launcher Pro as my default.
Please help.

You idiot. It’s not HIS API, it’s Google’s.
Hint: if you don’t know what you are babbling about keep your trap shut.
Also, Google released the new, more secure API so we can have the message counts again. I imagine he is building the next LP for ICS. Meanwhile, the old version works great.

Sadly, I’m still using launcher pro on my rooted GNex with AOKP rom. It’s kinda embarrassing.
Can anyone here suggest a replacement for ICS??

Apex Launcher Pro with Android Pro Widgets. Get gmail count back, etc. Only thing lacking in this combo is the swipe up dock icon action. But Apex Launcher Pro on ICS is actually very, very good. Folder options, etc kick ass. Oh yeah, Apex Pro actually has updates.

Hey Fede,
I love your Launcher Plus, but wish we could have a new update with ICS or MIUI options. Your Launcher is still the fastest there is, Please update us. Thanks.

thanks for a great app. i’ve used LPP for almost 2 years in my galaxy s and it was awesome. especially loved the calendar widget. i just updates to gs2 so LPP won’t work for me anymore but i’ll keep an eye out for ics compatible LPP and i’m willing to pay that 3$ again for it if it’s as good as the old one.
