Upcoming changes to Gmail app.
I just received some pretty sad news. The API that LauncherPro uses to access your Gmail messages (used on the Gmail widget and the Gmail dock notifications) is being removed in the next version of the Gmail app for Android 2.2 and higher. Apparently the API does not meet modern security standards.
What this means for LauncherPro users is once you update to this new version, your LauncherPro Plus Gmail widget, and LauncherPro Gmail dock notifications will stop working, and even potentially crash the launcher if you try to use them (I don’t have access to this upcoming version yet, so I cannot fully test it).
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, and hope that the Android team will come out with a revised API soon enough, so that we can re-gain our Gmail integration in LauncherPro.
Fede

Hey,
Is anyone else having problems with Yahoo Email not working with this launcher? I’m running a custom rom(legendary) and not getting notifications. Thanks!
I don’t know what is wrong everything from facebook app to my brower to text messanging freezes and force quits I think its launcher pro as that always crashes within a minute or so after the text breaks or app closes. This is new to happening only the last week or so but getting very annoying. I updated my phone in october to the gingerbread so maybe its not combatiple and just took a little bit to realize. I have a driod 2 and my brother has an htc and not having problems but I don’t know anyone else having this problem?

Yahoo Email sometimes deactivate notifications, i think it isn’t launcher related instead Yahoo Email related.

@George Have you tried a different keyboard, i dont’ have any problem, i run the latest LPP+ and i use swype, swiftkey x, or samsung stock keyboard without any problem.
P.D.: I don’t support LPP+, i am only a customer that want to help.
@Elizabeth. If you think that it is launcher fault try other launcher, like nemus is free and lightweight.
I don’t recomend anymore Go Launcher, because is too heavy and buggy for now, for that reason I back to LPP+, because for me is still the best launcher.

Wow, Fede and Leticia are doing a whole lot, I had no idea it was solely a one man job, Way to go!
I just love the sms and phone pop ups, they keep me from going to any other launcher because they are so handy!
Thanks and still enjoying LPP

Any plans for any updates soon? Some of the lag in this app is really annoying at times. I am a pro user also.

Hi Federico, if you are still working on LPP, I would like to humbly suggest two minor improvement ways :
- first, when I create a folder on the desktop, I can’t change the folder name to custom it. That would be useful.
- Moreover, there is no feature associated to the “upward swipe” on the desktop, if anytime you are looking for a shortcut for a feature, this could be used.

I would like a horizontal app drawer, ICS themed by default and better folder support… waiting for an update, but I think you won’t ever release another, as you missed a lot… using nemus for now… sorry

@ wlad : long Press on the name folder When it is open … And you can change it.

I love launcher pro, its a great app and works awesome on the galaxy note.

There are a lot of people commenting on your abscense and the lack of updates. They are even calling Launcher Pro “abandonware”.
Can you update us on your status and the future of Launcher Pro?
Do you need help developing?

Hey, love your App, but is it not time for a update? Just got my Nexus and would like to use your stuff on it.

I’ve been a fan of LauncherPro Plus since I got my OG Droid a few years ago. As for the people that believe that Federico can keep up with a company that he doesn’t even work for, while (more than likely) working a full time job, you must be kidding. He does an awesome job with LP+ and it’s my first choice when I get a new phone. I’ve had the OG, D2, and now Bionic; each of these has had LP+. Also, there has to be a reason why LP+ has as many downloads with as high of reviews as it does on the Market.
If you’re not happy that Google changed things, just remember that you paid more for your latte than you did for LP+. As for me, I’ll keep using and recommending LP+ to people.
Thanks for all your hard work Fed.

Sucks that there is no development going on with this abandoned app, but at least it seems to work (albeit laggy) on ICS.
Real shame.
I guess he’s more interested in money than anything else.

why don’t you upgrade the Launcher pro?
you might throw it away?
stopping the upgrade makes me disappointed..

Loved this launcher with a passion. Then I had to upgrade to ice cream sandwich. It doesn’t work any more. Please come out with an ice cream sandwich launcher alternative. I hate this default launcher.

Mr. Google Creator:
Please help us out here. I know YOU can. You are a genius afterall;). And, It’s the least you can do for all of us hardworking, money spending G Mailers. I actually changed from AOL after about 25 years. And, I haven’t had reason to regret it yet.
Sincerely,

I am genuinely disappointed that I chose to spend money on this product. Not because of the quality of the product, but because I thought paying meant I would have access to regular updates, or at least an official announcement from the developer about the status of this project. Instead, this is what we get. You could code the best launcher EVER, I would not give you money again.

love your launcher how about update date it for ics 4.0 there’s so many bad reviews cause of this

how unfortunate for a was-once-badass-launcher
STOCK ICSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!

Really? Its a shame people can’t finish what they started. I been using this launcher for well over a year and now seems to me the only way I know my Android. I feel completely abandoned and somewhat ripped off. (Completely ripped off if i still had to pay) but none the less. Maybe update your customers and inform us that your done and we need to find a new product. I’m sure if and when you come up with a new product, it will be under a new name as well but as for you Fred, I’m done! Pretty crappy dude
about 1 year ago
Your negative rants don’t help with the motivation.
There’s many types of developers, some love to just code and code and code. Others like to come up with something new.
Fede is the latter, re-coding the whole of LauncherPro, as was the plan was something he shouldn’t have started or started mainly alone. Because it’s boring work. And the crying about disappointments is not going to help. But finding coders that would want to help, would really help.

Guess I just got lucky… LauncherPro still suits all my needs perfectly, prolly cuz after I rooted my DroidX Sept 2010 I never allowed an OTA beyond my stock 2.2. Only issue on the horizon is apps using a scrollable api not supported by LP.

So basically all the reasons I paid such a high price for this phone turned out to be a bunch of BS. Thanks for the political lessons. Looks like it’s back to Verizon.

Shame that someone sitting on such a goldmine would leave it like this. Fred, you should have reached out for help if doing this alone was too much. Rebuilding from the ground up must be painful, but don’t burn bridges with loyal fans who loved your work. Long time user, but sadly will be making the switch soon..

I have been using this launcher since early June 2011 and I still use it. I have tryed a few different launchers and this one I keep coming back to. It’s been a long time between updates which is much needed on gingerbread and later. Please keep up the launcher and let us folks know what’s going on are you working on this? Have you quit this? What’s up? Thanks for reading and making a great launcher.

Federico:
Glad to here you’re okay and still working on the project. This is still the best launcher on market (even if some complain about the updates) and I’ve used most of them. I was having issues with the app on my moto droid 2, but you know what…every application on that phone cuases freezing and lock-ups so I don’t hold anything against the app.
I can share that I own a gTablet and I just flashed a new ROM to it (gTabCombOver) and absolutely hated the stock Launcher. Well, I installed LauncherPro from my backup and the application works like a charm and has made the tablet friendly again, Launcher Pro is still the best.
As an early adopter and purchaser, I admit that I was getting concerned that the app was dead, not because I paid for it, because the beauty of the launcher would be lost.
Keep moving forward, as a coder myself (on different platforms) I know how tedious it can be sometimes. Look forward to the next update.
Best Regards!

Nice to know you’re still working on it Fede.
Looking forward to seeing it, the old one is still the best launcher out there.
Can’t really see what people are complaining about – it’s not as if it’s broken! How many things do you buy for 3.5 dollars and have the creator make continuous improvements forever after just because you paid? As a developer myself, customer expectation drives me insane at times.
OK, gmail doesn’t work and it doesn’t run on ICS. That doesn’t count, gmail is broken for everyone and it wouldn’t run if you switched to a different OS either.
I’m just as eager as everyone else for an update, but even as it is this is still the best launcher out there imo. That says a lot! That shows me that this guy is more concerned with doing things right the first time instead of throwing something together that NEEDS a ton of updates and bug fixes. For what it’s worth, I’m holding out. That WRONG thing to do would be to rush out a project that would disappoint after all this waiting.
