LauncherPro v0.8.3 released!

First a little update on the progress of the rewrite: We’re still not quite there yet, but still making progress. The rewritten parts already show a marked improvement; for example, the rewritten app drawer scrolls smoother than ever before, even with some upcoming eye candy enabled (*hint, hint* ). I know a lot of you are anxious to get your hands on the rewritten version, but I think the wait will be well worth it. I seriously believe it will put LauncherPro on a league of its own since it’s not bound by the limitations of the code in the stock Android launcher.

Now, about the newly released LauncherPro v0.8.3, it brings one new, highly requested feature for all users:

Homescreen transition effects – You can now choose different transition effects to be used when moving through homescreens. Currently there are four effects on top of the usual side scrolling: Scale, Rotate, Flip, and Cube. More effects will come in future updates. (Menu > Preferences > Homescreen Settings > Transition effect

@jay; I’m using custom rom (bb v0.6). I removed the FB widget for 2 days. On the third day it started working again.

@Dave, SPB 5.0 is still in beta, and you’d have to troll the web today find an apk that actually works… I went through 4 different ones. It’s not stable on my Droid, because of RAM limitations, but it’s great on my Galaxy Tab (not sure it’s gonna be worth the reported $35 though). LPP is still my default, and I’ll wait until Fede completes the rewrite to make any real decision. Fede’s been good to us, honestly. He’s given us a great launcher, and an awful lot of his time. Word is (unverified) that Fede’s been either sick or dealing with personal matters. I’m willing to give him all the time he needs. I’m not a programmer, so I won’t bash anyone’s work who has more skills than I do.

@Bill, glad you got the widget working again. Could it have been a ROM issue? Some of the CM7 releases don’t always play nice with LPP, and I have to tinker with the settings and bit.

@Jay: i agree with you, but honestly, last Fede’s message was speaching about imminent realise…
we pay for FFB, and we don’t see anything, no news anything from and for LLP.

i still waiting couse i think that FFB is the best… but please fede, let we know something!!!

I only have one issue and one request, the issue is that if I have a contact widget on the screen, it’s sizing parameter resets with the phone as well as sometimes during the day, very annoying. The request is if I use the launcher facebook widget it use the facebook app instead of going to the web

Had trouble with gingerbread + scrollable widgets. So I moved to GoLauncher. Hasn’t the widgets PL got but not that different. Runs great.
Will have an eye on PL anyway.

Appreciate the work, but the least the dev can do, is keep us informed about progress. I’m not saying I need an update RIGHT NOW1111!, but there’s been no info at all from dev for one and a half months now… Why?

And yes I did pay for the off market version and do feel like it was a rip off. Never again… on a side note many of the comments here look falsified either from fede or his friends.. ill be somewhat surprised if this gets posted.. but if it doesn’t I will know for sure this is a 100 percent rip off and will spread the word … -letdowncustomer

I also paid, and am (was) loyal to this project.
but with absolutly NO update in a few months, well, i am starting to lose both faith and interest.
I am not even talking about SOFTWARE updates, but even “state of progress” updates.
when your user/customer base is waiting, and waiting less patiently every day, it is Important to not “leave them out of the loop”, or they feel betrayed.
public interest in LP(+) has dropped significantly since he dropped out of the loop. including mine.
so take your childish name calling, apply it to some introspection there pal.

Even though I’m outspoken in my support of the development community and all their hard work, I am also a customer. I understand that a ton of people are losing faith in this project, but guys, check the forum… there’s more info there. Fede doesn’t monitor this thread much from what I understand, but he and the LP team DO check the forums daily. If you have a technical issue, it can probably get sorted out there, and if you want a response to the ever-popular rewrite situation, someone will probably be willing to answer you, as long as you’re not belligerent and rude about it. We’re ALL eager for the rewrite (myself included) but one thing I’ve learned is that constant negative feedback will make anyone want to cease working. I’d encourage everyone to get active in the forum if you’re not already, and ask your questions there, because nobody here has any answers, so we’re all just “pissing in the wind” so to speak…

I still have LPP installed (still hopeful of a competition-killing update!), but I have recently installed GoLauncherEx, and I must admit, am very imopressed.

Very slick looking, a nicely presented app drawer, all the effects etc that LPP has.
The only downside I can find is that it doesn’t have all the widgets that LPP has, but I’ve been able to find alternatives to all of them, so I’m good.

This LPP rewrite will need to be good…..

  Like yourself I have tried GOLauncherEx and very impressed.Two widgets keep me here with LPP+ the Scrollable contact and Calendar Agenda which I feel goes hand in hand with a any launcher. At this stage much debate continues criticizing the developer which a simple Announcement would have resolved rather than an entry in Forum . What a pity creating a benchmark app such as LPP+ and then ignoring it’s supporters.

Yeah I mean I loved LauncherPro, but I have since moved on to GoLauncherEx. Understand the dev probably has stuff going on outside of this one project, but still, I paid for it and these updates are starting to look like Vaporware. I’m not being naive, I’m a software engie myself and understand it takes time, but you also can’t go months without anything or even announcing an update and expect paying customers to remain loyal.

Go Launcher has a lot of the same features, has themes, is quite smooth and is totally free. Doesn’t have the LP widgets but those were kind of buggy for me anyways, and there are other widgets that do similar things out there. Not trying to be negative, if these updates every come out I’ll probably come back and take a look, but LP isn’t the only good launcher out there anymore.

Suggestion:

1) Provide a screen timeout where if the phone is still or had not been used the screen would go to sleep after a user defined timeout.

2) After the screen goes to sleep there would be a second user defined timeout before the phone is locked (using the users preferred lock/password style). So, if the user where to wake up the screen before this second tmo you would just swype to enter the phone, otherwise the phone would lock and a the users pw would be required.

So, 2 timeouts: screen sleep, phone lock after sleep

I know you can do this! This WOULD BE BIG…!

App drawer resets itself to the top when you touch it with Nexus One gingerbread update. You are forced to use the trackball.

I have tried many launchers but none compare to Launcher Pro. Some have a few nice options but ovetall this is the best. I would like to see more themes and icons compatible with Lp. I installed LPIcons and they’re nice but would really like more detailed icons, not just icons with one solid color. Solid colors like in LPI look great for dock icons and I use them, but for homescreen I really want more detailed icons and ones unique compared to the default icons. Nice work, Fede!

Hello. I am using it on HTC desire hd. The only problem is that smart dialing starts working only after one key press after launching the phone app. So it misses the first key input I have checked it doesn’t happen with other launchers

When i resize the motoblur news widget (rss) horizontally, it soon becomes distorted and garbled same with the social networking widget. I dont have this issue with the normal home only with launcher pro. Please help!!

AWESOME APP!!! The only issue I’m having is running the calendar widget the agenda has all the right dates I put in but the otherview shows marks for the events a day after they happen.

I think this app is amazing.. it would be almost perfect if you could long press an app to open up a menu that allowed you to unilstall/open/go to marketpage/etc.. also if you could customize the notification bar..ex. make the battery a percentage instead

@Randy Cook,

I’m not sure if launchers are designed to do that. A launcher improves general UI performance, not overall device functionality. I know CM7 has the exact function you’re looking for, but it’s a ROM. If you’re rooted, I 100% suggest checking it out!
