LauncherPro v0.7.5.1 released!
A new build of LauncherPro has just hit the Android Market. Here’s what’s new:
For all users:
- Fixed a bug where changing the icon on the default dock shortcuts would revert back to the default icon after restarting LauncherPro (this didn’t happen when you changed the shortcut too).
- Fixed the menu button not responding after using the trackball or a hardware arrow key.
- Fixed a bug in the 3rd party scrollable widgets code that would cause the widget to be accidentally lifted while scrolling it.
- Changed the loading mechanism for the new “Activities” shortcut feature, since it wasn’t loading on some phones due to the amount of data on the list. It should load on all phones now. If you have a lot of apps installed, it might take a couple of minutes for the list to load.
- Set dock shortcuts to ignore swipes when they have no swipe gesture action set.
For Plus users only:
- Brought back the daily updating of the calendar widget to keep it up to date. I’ve tested the memory usage when using this and the previous memory leaks are fixed.
- New Messaging widget!. The fourth widget in the LauncherPro Plus series brings your SMS messages right to your homescreens. There are two styles to choose from, a card view that shows one message at a time, and a list view that shows all your messages in a list. Since widgets are now resizable, there’s only one pre-set size for each style, you can resize them to your liking. After you’re done resizing a widget, press the “Back” button on your phone to save the changes and go back to the launcher (just repeating this because I saw a lot of people complaining about their phone being “frozen” after resizing a widget).
In the card mode, you can scroll vertically through your messages. There’s buttons to reply and delete any message, and you can click the sender’s photo to bring out their QuickContact popup (on phones that have this functionality, otherwise it will open their contact card). In list mode, you can reply to any message by clicking on it. To delete a message or mark it as read, long-press on it and choose the desired option from the menu. You can also click on the sender’s photo to bring up their QuickContact popup (again, only on phones that support it). Clicking on the “Messaging” title should open your default messaging application. There’s two additional buttons, one for marking all messages as read (the button with the checkmark) and the other to compose a new message (it should create and open a blank message on your default messaging application). - Edit: 0.7.5.1 fixes a bug in 0.7.5.0 where moving the new Messaging widget would cause it to stop automatically updating until either the screen was rotated or LauncherPro was restarted.

This is the first widget I don’t really like …. You have to hit the refresh button for any new messages to appear in the list.
Whats the point of being able to see all my recent messages if I don’t automatically see the new ones?

Federico, great work on developing and fixing things so fast. One thing that still bothers me (and I haven’t seen a fix, but it may exist!) is resizing of the stock contact widgets on my Droid X. After restarting the phone, they resize to an odd format. How do we get it to stick to what we want?

for the calendar you need a full page of screen estate, just add a page, resize it and move to the desired page with the correct sized messaging widget waiting (or other way round)

Wow, you’re good.
Maybe HTC or someone else will buy your work for a forthcoming phone…
Just need an RSSwidget and a Friendfeed. Then u can retire…:)
(There might be a bug, if u accidently resize the card widget to 4×1. Then I happen to show up blank sometimes – and it is impossible to delete it. I had to check an app in the hiddenapps configuration, to relaunch Launcherpro. )
By the way – if u could make us able to format the images on the Activities menu – then we would never need BetterCut (good for app packs – and later remake icons) – and Desktop Visualizer (good – but can only use their own ugly icon packs – and cant remake – if I decide to use a different icon . – have to start all over)…
Just some thoughts…

AWESOME!!
I’VE BEEN WAITING A WHOLE WEEK FOR THIS UPDATE!!
Not that 1 week is a long time for an update, but I remember the good old beta days of multiple updates in a week. Every time I open the marketplace and look at my downloads, I always hope there’s a new LP/LP+ update. It’s always a great day when there is one.
Again – 1 week is NOT a long time for an update. I just love this app so much I can hardly wait for each new version.
MANY THANKS TO FEDERICO & GROUP

Wow! This is a great app. I paid for PLUS version and now I’m starting to feel guilty for not paying for all these great new features. Must be a holdover from my Palm days when a new release meant at least a $10 upgrade fee.
Seriously, I have never seen another app provide such incredible support and continued updates and new features.
I love my Android and it’s exciting to regularly discover new ways to use it, but LauncherPro provides even more excitement knowing that new features and widgets could be just around the corner every day.
Thanks for setting such a high standard for the Android community!

long press the top of the widget, same as any of the other launcherpro widgets. since they are all scrollable, you can not long press just anywhere.
if you are using the smaller messaging widget, long press where the name is. if you are using the larger widget, long press where it says messaging.

awesome update, been waiting for this widget for awhile. also would like to see a clock/weather widget too!!
the messaging widget is awesome, but if you can make it so that it groups together the text messages by name, it would make it even better. such as, it lists every contact out that texted you, and when you click on that persons name, it would bring up the text convo.

First thought:
– Awesome app!
Messaging widget:
- Much needed widget… Thank you but… It needs some more options
Suggestion:
- The card messaging widget needs a quick response option that pops up on screen instead of opening the default messaging app. (See the “messaging widgets” app in the market for an example of a functioning ‘ quick response’ example)
Conclusion:
- I like the messaging widget idea so far, but I’m sticking with the ‘messaging widget’ app for now.
I’m still a Big fan of launcher pro plus though!

I posted a reply to another comment above – the messaging widget is broken on galaxy s. After adding the small version I only get a white 2×4 block. Even worse the widget can not be removed at all from this state. Please fix asap!
The Galaxy S here does not come with stock msging app – so this may have been the issue (M110S uses a custom sms app)

Federico, I love this app. Got the plus version too. Here’s an idea for landscape mode, (if possible); the capability to lay out widgets and apps differently than how the appear in portrait mode. That way everything doesn’t appear squished. For instance, I have my calender widget at the top in portrait mode, but it would be sweet if it could be at the left side in landscape mode.
Thanks for a great app!

Nice update. Except you can’t adjust what you view in the messaging widget. I want to see them as threads. Not a list of every single message. Group by contact! List gets to be too long and unorganized if you do a lot of texting. Advice, swipe up and down to change contact and once on a contact swipe left and right to go through the threaded messages between you and that person. Invent a widget like that and you’ll be way ahead of the game. Love your work so far.

Federico, keep up the good work, we all appreciate it. The only suggestion I have for the large messaging widget (it may even be a personal preference) is that it should show the latest text from each person instead of the latest texts in general. So it sorta looks like the stock sms app, I guess? I think it would be more useful this way. Anyway, keep up the good work, can’t wait for the next update!

On the Icon that shows one message at a time
Or possible 3- type of Icon
Be able to scroll thru message CONTACTS
On the Icon that shows ALL messages
Allow deletion of messages
I believe this APP is one of the GREATEST in/on the market

I’ve enjoyed using this launcher. Unfortunately, my Samsung Captivate appears to have considerable issues with the android.process.acore task. Typically, Android System Info will show duplicates of this process running at 100% CPU usage for significant periods of time. (Say 50-80%). Extreme battery drain and inability for the phone to respond to tasks in a timely fashion. Tried many things to correct, but it only went away when I uninstalled LuancerPro. I’d love to switch back and I’d very likely donate to the plus version.

Thanks for providing improvements through each update. I have been using Launcher Pro as my default home app on my samsung captivate. I don’t use the touchwiz launcher at all. Only time i have to use touchwiz is to use the MTP application to sync my device with apps like Samsung Kies and MediaMonkey. Can you please provide an update where we can sync the device on LauncherPro mode with pc. Don’t know if it is possible. I am not that tech savvy. I tried using mass storage mode (after unmounting the sd card and also on mounted mode), PC connection and all other setings but it is not working. It is not an issue that i am complaining about. It would be really great to have this feature. With the support you already have on the market place, this feature will make touchwiz go out of use. Just my thought. Also, i noticed that you have given messaging as an option in the launcherpro widgets. It will be nice to see weather and clock, social network widgets for pro plus users. Thanks for providing us with this awesome app.

Since the Widgets are resizable, how can you get two on one home screen? On my Droid it always says it can’t add a new widget because there is no room. I know I can drag a resized widget to another page, add a new widget, resize, and then finally drag the original widget back. It would be better if the default was smaller, 1 x 4 or something similar.

Okay people, I found a solution to the blank white messaging Widgets. If you are experiencing the small messaging Widgets being white and you can’t move or drag it to delete it. What I did was turn your phone sideways to view the screen in landscape mode, then longpres the white blank messaging widgets on the bottom right somewhere (the place may be different for others) you’ll feel the phone lite vibrate, to where you can drag to move it – just drag it to the far right to put it in the trash.
I hope this solution works. I have a Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S phone.

For all samsung galaxy s and variant users you can still use Launcher pro and kies together as long as when you install Launcher Pro, you make neither Launchers default when asked. That way you can switch between Launchers by pressing “back button” and “home”. Sometimes fiddly but it works fine until the developer can work on a solution.

Please take over Facebook and Twitter widgets.
The newly introduced messaging widget is beautifully done. I like the vertical scrolling mode. It is very useful. I hope someday you take over the default Facebook and twitter widgets with vertical scrolling as they are done horribly today.

Just wanted to say that Launcher Pro is the best home screen launcher ever made!
Quick question…
Is there a option to turn off the landscape feature on Launcher Pro?
Only time I really use it is when I’m using Handcent, most of the time I use it in portrait mode which I personally prefer.
Any help would be appreciated.

that menu isn’t included on the droid x, at least im like 90 percent sure it isn’t. well, in addition to the people widget, you get the calendar, messaging and bookmark widgets. with more to come. not to mention its always good to support a dev that works so hard to make the product as good as possible.

Yes, that is the only solution for now to connect the phone to the PC so the removable storage is seen..you have to switch to twLauncher – a bit annoying.
Anyway there are more bugs on the Galaxy S with Launcher Pro Plus – the bookmark and people widgets force close when you press anything in them …
…the new Messaging widget however, works great !
Cheers!

Currently on 2.2 for Droid FRG01B
Kernel 2.6.32.9-g103d848
Accidentally chose regular Launcher as default. LauncherPro app went hidden and could not run. Had to do full reinstall and enter upgrade key.
I installed HomeSwitcher and was able to run LauncherPro
Current bugs I’m experiencing
1. Home button on phone returns to regular launcher every time from any app. Have to use Home Switcher each time. ;(
2. Stock App: Alarm has gone missing (I haven’t checked to see if any other apps have disappeared).
3. When I’m in Preferences main menu and any submenu and perform a rotation, I’m taken back to the main menu.
4. Appearance Settings>Show Screen Indicator – not displaying which screen I’m on.

Hi,
I have droid 1 with 2.1 and launcher pro plus.
I just added the people widget. I want to change it’s style or delete and it’s not allowing me. I can’t resize it either. Tried long press, preference and settings. No options to delete, or change the People widget.
Also on LP widget settings, it does list a setting for “people” could this be the problem?
Only has it for Messaging, calender and bookmarks.
Any ideas?

Loving LauncherPro Plus, especially the newly featured widgets. Just a question to those out there, I may have missed it in the comments, but I’ve noticed with the Messages Widget that every time a unique contact messages me for the first time, the widget asks what application I want to use. I’ve tried checking the box for use as default, but it only seems to default for that contact, not globally. Any ideas?

1. Last I remember, Home Switcher lets you set the default. Though this may not work as Home Switcher doesn’t support 2.2. If you install any other launcher or reinstall Launcherpro, the system will prompt you to choose which you want to use as a default.
2. 2.2 got rid of the alarm app. Now it is just called Clock.
4. The screen indicator shows up only when you scroll through screens

The Moto contacts widget DOES work in LaunderPro now, you just have to resize it and then choose what you want the quick task to be. I have all of mine set to 1×1 widgets that bring up a contact’s details and it works great, just like in the stock launcher.

Would it be possible to amplify the calendar widget with support for displaying third party app notes/agenda items? For example, I used to use Pure Calendar widget, which had an option to pull in my notes from Astrid Task Manager. It would display these in my Calendar Agenda View and keep them at the top above the day, so that they were always at the forefront.
Thanks so much for the great design aesthetic on these widgets, the Android Market was seriously lacking such quality. Well done!
